The nature of art is a very difficult topic to discuss. Art itself can be impossible to define. Is it about creativity? Is it about skill? Should it be considered entertainment and something that unifies and defines culture? Or is it a deeply personal form of creative expression and individualism? What can be considered art? Is the iPhone 5 art? Is nature art? Art is often defined by beauty.

Academic writing should teach the writer as much as the reader. Writing, when unrestrained, can help uncover words and ideas that we weren’t aware we even had. Focus shifts away from organization towards discovering the actual topic of the paper.

Personally, I like to take a stance that integrates both the subjective and objective opinions on the nature of art.

Whereas the nature of art is seen as a way for one to express themselves and their individuality, academic writing follows a more structural purpose, with the goal of displaying a clear understanding of a subject.

This is academic writing because I am writing it in a classroom and it is written in response to a prompt given by my professor. Is it boring and dry?

The ability to feel and see the beauty in anything others or we do is not what most of us have, but once gained, it changes our lives … We usually call art something that catches our attention in a good way, but art is created to help our souls grow, not to please others.

Academic writing is subjective in that the writer puts together series of words in particular ways, both in format and in syntax, in order to present facts and personal analyses. Furthermore, the analyses that are presented are purely subjective as they are ideas that the writer has pulled from given facts. On the other hand, academic writing is also objective. The writing cannot merely be based on what the writer thinks. The writer’s thoughts and analyses must be supported by facts derived from research and basic knowledge. Such facts are used as elements of logical reasoning to reach the final conclusion and analysis.

Art doesn’t have to be good or bad, it just has to come from the heart, and that’s why anyone can make a magnificent piece of art.

Knowledge is a liquid asset, a very free one, and a much needed one, where the accumulation of it in communication builds its value. In academic writing, the form acts as the main short exchange of knowledge, the adding of new knowledge, and the modifying of our pool of knowledge.

A distinguishing feature of art is that the underlying ideas or emotions of art are usually not directly stated to the audience, creating a level of abstraction that makes reaching the piece’s meaning difficult.

Academic writing is intended to prove, encourage, and teach knowledge.

One may think of a canvas or an orchestra when hearing the word Art; but there is so much more to it than that. ‘Art’ can also be found in the clothing one wears or the food one eats. It is everything from the accents we speak with to the way we carry ourselves.

Although the information one begins with may be very concrete, such as numbers in experimental data, the way in which this information is analyzed and synthesized into a paper can change greatly depending on the writer’s perspective.

Art is a subject that is very loosely defined and interpreted in many ways. In a general sense, art is something created out of feeling and emotion. It is often trying to evoke a certain emotional response from others. May have trouble relating it to scientific lines of study, since it is not data driven. Art is something that is meant to be enjoyed and can range from any medium like music to drawings to writings to ceramics. It is an essential component to many other fields such as history and architecture. Some have a greater ability of appreciating, creating, and identifying art than others. Since the definition is so broad, it is safe to say that almost everyone can create art, and almost anything could be interpreted as art. This makes giving an analytical definition of art rather difficult.

Sometimes academic writing is challenging, whether one is forced to write about something unknown and learn through the process, or just step out of his or her comfort zone in any way.

Art is a spontaneous creation formed from imagination and expression. It transcends all mediums and is a concept that requires no aesthetic appeal.

Academic writing is writing done for a specific scholarly purpose. It exists to train students to communicate ideas effectively and transmit knowledge to others.

That which never would have been art yesterday is art today, and we cannot even imagine the art of tomorrow.

There are technical rules, such as the MLA standard, but for the most part academic writing refers to an ideal clarity gained through writing in a specific tone designated as neutral. By only using certain forms of speech and grammar, and consistently removing the others, the ostensible effect is that the tone is virtually identical in most pieces of academic writing, allowing the reader to focus on the content of the essay or book, and not on any perceptions of the author based on their tone.

Art is the translation of abstract emotion into a more tangible and relatable form. Effective art allows human feeling to be communicated more clearly than it would be through just written or verbal means. Originality and technical prowess are the two main qualities that make up the nature of art.

Academic writing is communicative in nature and should be easily readable to other academics. Most academic works are based off of countless other works. In that way, the spectrum of academic writing is filled with interdependency.

But in all cases the artist is seeking to understand and demonstrate some deeply intangible idea.

At its basis, art is expression, whether of sentiment, experience, or nearly anything else. Typically art is restricted to human creations, although at times animal creations become art when given meaning by humans. Following this thought, art involves human participation at some level because it is intentional; otherwise, it is nature.

The structure and syntax of academic writing enable the writer to take a strong viewpoint and enforce his or her ideas using evidence from text. The writer must also be able to effectively balance between evidence and his or her opinion and also combine all ideas into a passage that is organized and persuasive. No matter what stance a writer may take, they must provide convincing support.

The most popular form of didactic writing in the modern age is undoubtedly academic writing. Whereas in centuries past a more accessible fictional literature was a primary vessel for informing society, the advent of academic writing has created a more narrow-purposed form of expression on the existence of a certain set of facts or an amalgamation of knowledge collected on a set topic. This form lacks subtlety and finesse found in a “less” academic type of writing: the narrative.

When people think of art, what usually comes to mind are the great painters of the Renaissance era, the ones that had the ability to capture human likeness so well. What they created on a canvas looked so realistic and full of symmetry that people had no choice but to appreciate it. Nowadays, however, contemporary art tends to be unsymmetrical on purpose. It is as if we as humans are getting bored of our biologically programmed appreciation of symmetry and instead want to shake things up a bit.

One could argue that academic writing is yet another form of art—it is a piece of writing that is totally subjective to the author and reader, it contains language, it is influenced by cultural customs in the way it is written, and it represents the exchange of ideas and knowledge.

Art is anything that successfully expresses the feelings or intentions of the artist (the person creating the art form), while bringing out a response or a reaction by the audience who views, listens, etc. this art form.

I believe academic writing usually follows a straightforward format: introduction, background information, possibly some new information (depending on the subject), and then conclusion(s).  It is the conclusions that are usually the “meat” of the writing, or the thing separating it from redundancy.  However, purely informative text, such as an encyclopedia, is also academic writing.

A poignant example of the power inherent in academic writing would be the story of Albert Einstein. What made Einstein famous originally was his work on the photoelectric effect, which he learned about from an academic paper he read. In reading this paper he made himself famous in the academic world, and it ultimately had a huge impact upon his career, and hence the world.

However, art does not need to express a serious or important idea.  Art can simply refer to aesthetics, and appears in our daily lives, such as in clothing, cars, or even food.  It can also refer to entertainment; people enjoy listening to music as a form of art.  Video game developers integrate art in order to make their games more appealing.  Art is interwoven in our daily lives, and can be found anywhere people can appreciate it.

The writer then has to make do with those restrictions or requirements, leaving less room for creativity, and shifting its primary tone to possible adjectives like ‘pedantic’ and ‘ridged’.
